Sustainable Carolina is excited to announce its Hanesbrands internship program. The internships, hosted by Sustainable Carolina, run June-August 2023. Interns will work closely with Hanesbrands sustainability staff.

The four students selected for the internships will gain hands-on experience working with a global company and learn the value of public-private partnerships.

Cold Water Wash Marketing Campaign Internship

Washing one load of laundry on cold every week saves 2 billion kWh of electricity, 166 therms of natural gas. It also prevents 3 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere. When you consider a college campus with multiple laundry units in every dorm, these numbers get even bigger. So why aren’t college students washing on cold?

Two students will be selected for the Cold Water Wash Marketing Campaign internship. The students will work together to develop a social marketing strategy to bring a cold water wash campaign to campus. With Carolina as a case study, students will research and create a campaign to encourage cold water wash in dormitories. A solid understanding of core marketing principles will be essential. At the conclusion of the internship, the team will present a final report to Hanesbrands, Sustainable Carolina, and UNC Auxiliary Services.

See the internships page for more details. When you’re ready, apply through this form. Applications are due March 31.

Energy Efficiency Policy Review Internship

The Inflation Reduction Act incentivizes clean energy actions. UNC-Chapel Hill qualifies as a 501(c)(3) organization under the IRA. As a University, we could access tax credits through a direct pay program.

Two interns will be selected to review the IRA and identify how it could help bring more clean energy to campus. Parallel to this goal, the team will identify how Hanesbrands can take advantage of the bill. The students selected for this role will need a solid understanding of federal policy. At the conclusion of the internship, the team will present a final report to Hanesbrands and Sustainable Carolina.

See the internships page for more details. When you’re ready, apply through this form. Applications are due March 31.
