EcoStudio Program

Students can gain experience outside the classroom through the EcoStudio program. Offered through Environment, Ecology and Energy Program and the UNC Institute for the Environment, this program matches students with projects at the University and in the greater community. Students gain professional experience in areas such as energy, sustainability, environment, policy, planning and many other fields. Students apply what they learn in the classroom to solve real-world problems.

Students in the program meet once a week with their advisors and other students to talk about their projects. At the end of the semester, participants present their projects.

Visit the EcoStudio page to learn more about the application process.

Sustainability, gamified!

Go on a sustainability adventure with UNC-Chapel Hill’s mascot! Help Rameses complete tasks to save energy and water and reduce the amount of trash being sent to the landfill! Set to a video game version of “Hark the Sound,” players visit residence halls, dining halls and other University facilities. Amy Xu, a former EcoStudio intern with Sustainable Carolina, created this video game.

Hanesbrands, Inc. Cold Water Wash

In summer 2023, two interns conducted research, analyzed their findings and worked with Winston-Salem based Hanesbrands to create a Cold Water Wash Playbook. The interns collaborated with Hanesbrands’ marketing department to bring many of their ideas to fruition.

One additional Hanesbrands intern analyzed different parts of the Inflation Reduction Act, with the goal of identifying ways for Hanesbrands to take advantage of tax credits offered through the program.
