Intentional Course Work and Vigorous Field Work

Because Sustainable Carolina is housed within UNC Institute for the Environment, we are also part of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research.

Faculty members that are a part of UNC Institute for the Environment usually retain appointments within their academic departments. Through this faculty, the Institute carries a great breadth and depth of knowledge, and much of it is related to sustainability.

Internship Opportunities

Students can gain experience outside the classroom through the EcoStudio program. Offered through Environment, Ecology and Energy Program and the UNC Institute for the Environment, this program matches students with projects at the University and in the greater community. Students gain professional experience in areas such as energy, sustainability, environment, policy, planning and many other fields. Students apply what they learn in the classroom to solve real-world problems.

Students in the program meet once a week with their advisors and other students to talk about their projects. At the end of the semester, participants present their projects.

Visit the EcoStudio page to learn more about the application process.
