Details

This year’s theme is sustainable communities. We encourage those entering the design contest to look at our website to learn about Carolina’s sustainable features and draw inspiration from those.

This contest is open for undergraduate and graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill. It opens December 13 and closes January 21 at 11:59 pm. The winning student will be notified on January 24. The winning student will receive a $300 VISA® gift card.

What do you mean by “sustainable community?”

We’re asking participants to create a design that goes along with our theme of “sustainable communities.” You can think of this as locally or globally as you’d like – your design can be something within the Chapel Hill community, something outside of it, or something you’ve dreamed up in your own imagination.

Topics that might come to mind could be urban planning, geography, recreation or agriculture. Think public spaces, people, roads, greenways, native plants, water and tree coverage (the possibilities are endless). Think about a place where you feel at home in nature. Think about our natural resources and how we’re using them. Think about a place where you feel connected to the wider community.

Design guidelines (important!)

Designs can be hand drawn or digitally created.

Designs should be black and white. No multi-color designs, please! The t-shirt will either be dark with the design in a light color or light with the design in a dark color.

Your shirt can have just a front design OR a small front design with larger back design. One design entry per student.

  • Please use this naming convention when sending in your file to specify front and back designs: last name_first name_design_contest_front or last name_first name_design_contest_back.

Please note, the winning student design may need to be modified as it goes through approval with UNC Institute for the Environment and UNC Communications.
