In celebration of Campus Sustainability Month, Sustainable Carolina is excited to release our 2023 Campus Sustainability Report. As the hub for sustainability at Carolina, our team looks forward to highlighting the challenges and successes of sustainability every year.

This year’s report features an expanded GHG: By the Numbers, detailing the changes in energy efficiency and vehicle emissions that occurred over the last academic year. These two pages feature a bar graph illustrating our campus emissions, grouping them into five categories: stationary combustion, purchased electricity, air travel, commuting and “other.”

Also new this year, the report contains a table of the Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee (RESPC) projects for the 2022-2023 school year. The cost and sustainability benefit of each project is listed.

Finally, the report shows how we’ve updated our website, enhancing website navigation and accessibility. UNC Institute for the Environment and Sustainable Carolina partnered with the UNC Digital Accessibility Office and UNC Creative for this project.

We recognize that we may have missed some sustainability successes and ask University departments to send us any achievements from the 2023-2024 year they would like to see included in next year’s report.
