Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Sustainability Research

Through our partnership with the UNC Office of Undergraduate Research, we award our Undergraduate Research Prize for Excellence in Sustainability Research every year.

The prize is awarded at the Celebration of Undergraduate Research in April. During the Celebration, a team of judges from the UNC Institute for the Environment evaluates sustainability research. The judges score posters based on a standardized rubric.

Adithi Reddy talks with Susan Cohen, sustainability prize judge. Reddy won first prize in 2024 for her sustainability research.

How to Enter

To be considered for our Prize for Excellence in Sustainability Research, students must complete two things by Sunday, April 20, 2025:

  • A submission form on the UNC Office of Undergraduate Research website.
  • The Sustainable Carolina form below.

Students who have submitted work in the past are welcome to submit again. Please note, the research must be materially different from previous submissions.

First prize receives $300, second prize receives $150 and third prize receives $50. Prizes will be split if there are multiple presenters for one poster. Only those present at the event are eligible to receive prize money.
