In 2007, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill signed the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). In signing this, Carolina committed to carbon neutrality by 2050 and agreed to conduct annual greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories in order to track progress.
The University has just released the 2018 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report. Highlights of the report include a 19% overall decrease in GHG emissions since 2007. To meet our goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, Carolina is working to update its Climate Action Plan, which will include many strategies for emission reduction.
